Hike in the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve to see spectacular
views across the entire valley or take a stroll on the Cat se Pad
walking trail.
Hire a bicycle from Franschhoek Cycles and ride through the vineyards, mountains and forests surrounding the village (guided or self-directed) or visit the Berg River Dam.
History
There is plenty of history to see in Franschhoek – from Gabled Cape Dutch homes, to historic
cellars, churches and homesteads of the pre-colonial settlers of the Dutch East India Company
and the French Huguenots. Or visit the site of Nelson Mandela’s first walk of Freedom at the
Groot Drakenstein Prison.

Visit the informal market in the centre
of the village, next to the town hall, for
hand-crafted curiosities from all over
Africa.
The Saturday Village Market offers local
quality craft, good food and drink

studio gallery, or visit the current exhibition at
Grande Provence, or any of the many galleries
along the main road.
Wine
Take the hop-on, hop-off tour of the
winelands with Franschhoek’s Wine Tram,
stopping at Antonij Rupert’s Winery and many
other beautiful tasting rooms and picturesque
wine farms.
Motor Museum
The Franschhoek Motor Museum offers
visitors a special opportunity to look back
at more than 100 years of motoring
history. Its unique and exciting collection
of vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles and
memorabilia is located in the setting of
L´Ormarins Wine Estate. An on-site
delicatessen serves food, while tasting and
purchasing of the estate’s wine is also
offered.
